How to find historical satellite imagery of any place, free

VNTG includes Esri Wayback — every release of Esri's World Imagery basemap since 2014 — so you can step one location back through the years and watch it change. Pick a date from the Historical panel and the map redraws at roughly 30 cm per pixel for that release. It's free and needs no account.

Step by step

  1. Go to the place. Search an address or coordinates at vntg-point.com.
  2. Open the Historical panel. In the sidebar, expand "Historical · Esri Wayback".
  3. Choose a date. Every archived release since 2014 is listed. Selecting one redraws the map as it looked then.
  4. Compare. Switch back to present-day, or use Compare mode to view two sources side by side.
  5. Export. Download any historical view as a georeferenced file.
For imagery older than 2014, national archives and USGS EarthExplorer (Landsat back to 1972) are the usual free routes — lower resolution, but far deeper history.
